Life in the Green

The Appalachian Trail, Summer 2004

About

In a time of transition, I came looking for something that no longer existed, and I found exactly that, much to my surprise and dismay. I was coming back to the Appalachian Trail and its long green tunnel two years after finishing my first long distance hike from Springer Mountain to Damascus. That first hike had been the best thing that I had ever done and I remembered the AT with nothing but fondness and a longing for more. I had two months to spend on the AT before transferring over to the Great Divide Trail later in the summer when the snows of the Canadian Rockies would have melted. I found that Appalachian Trail, as I hiked it two years ago, no longer existed. Not because it had changed, but rather because I had.
