When my friend Mike told me he was going to Central America to loaf during the winter break of 2002-2003, I dropped all plans for an adventurous hiking trip in Patagonia and decided that lazying around Central America was a better idea than freezing in Chile and Argentina. Sandinistas, Contras, Daniel Ortega, the original Banana Republic, two countries that fought a war over a soccer match, cheap beer, top notch rum, and excellent street food. What is not to like about Central America?
